Children & Adolesents

Childhood and adolescence are times of continual change and growth, and this can bring about stressors that kids or parents have to navigate through.  In my work with children and teens, I use a person-centred approach tailored to each child or teen’s strengths and needs to help them identify and process their emotions.  With children I often use arts and play based activities, and with teens I spend more time talking with them directly.  Through our work together we can build insight, coping skills and confidence.

Attachment and connection are the foundation for a healthy relationship between parent/caregiver and their child or teen.  This foundation is important for social, emotional and behavioural challenges that arise but also for the child or teen’s overall well-being.  I help parents/caregivers learn healthy and age appropriate expectations of their children and teens so they are more confident skilled in their parenting approach.  When parents are more confident in themselves as parents, they are better able to create positive relationships with their child or teen, and help them build their self-esteem, confidence and ability to regulate their emotions.
